Effects of flooding-induced N2O production, consumption and emission dynamics on the annual N2O emission budget in wetland soil

► We examine how the annual N2O emission budget is influence by flooding events. ► A significant, but shortlived N2O emission pulse was measured following field flooding. ► Microsensor profiling show sequential production/consumption control net emissions. ► Higher future flooding frequency will have a low impact on annual emission budget.
