► Three C27 bile acids [(24R,25R)-3α,7α,24-trihydroxy-5β-cholestan-27-oyl taurine as well as the (25R)- and (25S)-epimers of 3α,7α-dihydroxy-5β-cholestan-27-oyl taurine] were found to be major biliary bile acids in the capuchinbird (Perissocephalus tricolor) and bare-throated bellbird (Procnias nudicollis). ► Structures of these bile acids were established by HPLC, LC/ESI-MS/MS, and NMR as well as by a comparison of their chromatographic properties with those of synthetic reference standards. ► (24R,25R)-3α,7α,24-trihydroxy-5β-cholestan-27-oic acid has never been previously reported in any vertebrate species including mammals, although the presence of (24ξ,25ξ)-one with unidentified stereochemical configuration at C-24 and C-25 has been reported.
