Influenza

Influenza viruses are present throughout the world and have developed mechanisms to allow for constant evolution. Influenza A is the most common type of these viruses and has the most extensive host range. The most frequent clinical signs associated with influenza infection involve the respiratory tract, but depending on the avian species diagnosed with this disease, the gastrointestinal tract or nervous system may be affected. Therapy based on treating clinical signs is usually adequate to manage infected individuals, but antiviral medications are available. Numerous steps can be followed to prevent exposure and reduce morbidity and mortality associated with influenza infection.
