A Multidiscipinary Approach to Improving Skin‐to‐Skin Contact Immediately After Birth

Success in improving skin‐to‐skin rates in labor and delivery depends on the cooperation and flexibility of every discipline involved in the care of mothers and newborns. Skin‐to‐skin contact rates increased dramatically in a relatively short period, and patients and nurses expressed satisfaction about these changes. The statistics collected indicate an impressive improvement in skin‐to‐skin contact rates. Patient and staff surveys support the growing satisfaction with the changes implemented. Involving all stakeholders helped to identify and address sustainability of our new practice.
