The CNE-CNIO Partnership: Improving Patient Care rough Technology

In 2012, AONE published a position paper supporting the role of the nursing informatics executive as a key member of the nursing executive team to promote nursing's use of technology to help nurses adapt to the changing environments in how care is delivered and communicated.1 This position paper, in response to the IOM's Future of Nursing report, identifies the nursing informatics executive as an emerging leader to help organizations achieve their informatics goals and priorities. The chief nursing informatics officer (CNIO) position is rapidly emerging as organizations seek to manage and support this growth in technology, and develop strategies for outcomes management, nursing efficiencies, and safe patient care. 1
