Infekcyjne zapalenie wsierdzia

Two cases of infective endocarditis in children aged 7 and 17 with no prior heart defect are presented. The younger patient, who had vegetations localized on the tricuspid valve and septal endocardium of the right heart, successfully underwent cardiac surgery aimed at removing the vegetations and performing valvuloplasty. The older patient with extensive vegetations on the mitral valve and walls of the left atrium was treated by antibiotics only. As a consequence of the inflammation he developed mitral insufficiency of hemodynamic significance. In both cases dental caries was the source of infection.
