Doktor Tadeusz Mogilnicki (1879-1940) dyrektor Szpitala Anny Marii dla dzieci w Łodzi w latach 1923-1939

Tadeusz Michał Mogilnicki (1879-1940) was born in Warsaw to Konstanty Mogilnicki and his wife Henryka, née Å»arnowska. In 1904 he graduated from the University of Warsaw. In 1905 T. Mogilnicki started to work as a physician in the newly opened Anna Maria Hospital for children in Łódź. He began also the job of the first physician in “Drop of Milk” Society in Łódź. During the World War I Dr. T. Mogilnicki was mobilized as a physician of a front-line hospital of a Russian artillery regiment. In 1923 he received PhD degree at the University of Warsaw and became the Chief Physician, later he got the post of the Head of this hospital. Dr. T. Mogilnicki also organized and took care of sanatorium in Sokolniki, designed for children who were recovering after the hospital stay. At the time when Dr. T. Mogilnicki was the superior of the Hospital, two modern pavilions were built: the isolation and tubercular one (1930) and the isolation pavilion (1938). For the 25th anniversary of hospital opening, Dr. T. Mogilnicki prepared a monograph of the institution. He supported the idea of opening the Medical Faculty in Łódź. You can find the name of Dr. T. Mogilnicki on the list of charter members of the Society “Organization of Higher Education Medical School in Łódź” (1938). He was a member of “Polish Pediatry” Journal Editorial Board. Dr. T. Mogilnicki was the President of Polish Paediatric Society in the years 1933-1935. He initiated and presided the Organizational Committee of the 5th Congress of Polish Paediatric Society in Lodz (1935). Dr T. Mogilnicki was a member of numerous charity organizations, in particular the ones concerning child care. Mobilized at the beginning of World War II, as captain-physician, Dr. T. Mogilnicki was arrested by Soviets, imprisoned in Kozielsk, and murdered in Katyn. Dr. T. Mogilnicki was the author of about 58 scientific papers, concerning children contagious diseases, children hospitals, child care organization, etc.
