Obesity becomes very important medical problem in Poland. Obesity in childhood is associated with many immediate consequences including cardiovascular, pulmonary, orthopedic. Obesity isn't inheriteted by one gene. Genetic factors are in charge of obesity in 30-40% but influence of enviroment is also very impotartant especially in childhood. There is multisystem genetic syndrome which goes with obesity, for example Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS). It is caused by few genetic mechanism - genomic imprinting, deletion of part of a paternally chromosome and uniparental disomy. Obesity in PWS causes reduction of capacity of the chest which goes to abnormal proportion ventilation - perfusion and desaturation followed to respiratory insufficiency. The presence of sleep apnea is correlated with obesity. It may cause problems in studying and dysfunction of memory. Hypoventilatory syndrom results pulmonary hypertension. Obesity is connected with asthma. Because the most signifant problem associated with obesity is respiratory failure, weight loss is very important.
