Plasticité cérébrale chez l'adulte et la personne âgée : quels enjeux dans la prise en charge ophtalmologique et orthoptique ?

For decades, cerebral plasticity is often described at the child's level. However, this phenomenon also exists during the adulthood and is highlighted by numerous recent studies. Functional MRI and VEP are no invasive techniques which show this cerebral plasticity (neurogenesis and synaptic plasticity) in adult visual cortex. In ophtalmo-orthoptic practice, the coverage of numerous uni- or bilateral pathologies (ARMD, post-traumatic neutralization, presbyopia) requires knowledge of specific mechanisms in order to optimize the reeducation and the rehabilitation of visual deficit.
