Current pharmacological modalities for control of chronic non-cancer pain

SummaryThe incidence of chronic non-cancer pain (CNCP) varies among different populations. However, the medical, psychosocial and financial impact of this emerging pathophysiological phenomenon cannot be ignored. Underlying pain mechanisms have been increasingly defined and are paramount in developing new pharmacological options for the management of CNCP. This review is intended to provide an update to the evidence for use of different classes of analgesics and adjuvants available.
