Aneurisma de arteria mesentérica superior por displasia fibromuscular

Introduction. Aneurysms of the visceral arteri.es are uncommon conditions with an estimated incidence of 0.01-2%. They are mosl frequently fourid in the splenic artery (60%), followed by the hepatic artery {20%). Less than 5% of al i visceral aneurysms are located in the superior mesenteric artery. 'Tliey are rarely symptomatic and therefore they are. usitally diagnosed following a chance finding. They most commonly origínate from an infection, fibromuscular dysplasia being one of the rare.il causes. Preferred treatment is surgical, either by open surgery or by using endovaseular techniques, due the risk of rupture, which has a high mortalily rale. Case report. A 27-year-oldfemale diagnosed with an aneurysm in the superior mesenteric artery following severaI bouts of abdominal pain caused by fibromuscular dysplasia. Conclusión. The patient was treated surgically by placement of a saphenous vein graft, with a good outeome. [ANGIOLOGÍA 2009; 61: 229-33]
