Diagnosis is a fundamental part of our daily practice. We are confronted by a huge number of studies on diagnostic tests and it is essential to be able to distinguish between those that can be of use to us and those that only produce 'background noise'. The aim of this study is to offer a series of tools and guidelines that may help us to read these reports with a critical attitude, so that we are in a position to choose the ones that may be of most use to us.
