Abnormalities in the Brain Before Elective Cardiac Surgery Detected by Diffusion-Weighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging

In all, 4.5% of cardiac surgery patients had existing cerebral ischemic lesions on DWI without obvious neurologic defects. Further studies are required to determine whether the lesions are associated with postoperative cognitive dysfunction or stroke.
