Could resistin be a noble marker for metabolic syndrome?
چکیده انگلیسی

ContextPlethora of documentary evidence is available demonstrating the link of obesity induced insulin resistance with resistin, a member of class of cysteine-rich proteins collectively termed resistin-like molecules. However, the physiological functionality of resistin in human beings is still poorly understood and remains to establish clinically.Evidence acquisitionExtensive literature survey was carried out for the studies relating the expression and activity of resistin and other associated factors in causation and progression of metabolic syndrome. Different digital libraries through Endnote software were used as resource material for a period from 1998 to till date.Evidence synthesisIn-depth study of the collected literature was done to analyze and arrange the scientific evidence in such a synchronized way that possible correlation, if any, between resistin protein and metabolic syndrome could be established in human beings.ConclusionModulatory effect of resistin in the expression and activity of various adipocytokines has been established which in part, led to causation and progression of metabolic syndrome. However, resistin acts differently in human and experimental animals. The cascade of activation of receptors of resistin is still poorly understood and to be explored further.
