Buccal mucosa grafting for male urethroplasty: Long-term follow up of patients’ experience with a team approach and primary closure
چکیده انگلیسی

There is a paucity of long-term data regarding oral mucosal graft harvesting performed by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon as part of a team approach. We hypothesized low complication rates at the donor site when the harvest is performed by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon (OMS). This observational study includes chart review of subjects undergoing buccal mucosa grafting and a long-term follow up survey sent to study participants. Forty-eight subjects underwent 58 grafts. Twenty-eight subjects responded to the survey. There were no significant intra- or post-operative complications. Subjects generally did very well long-term in terms of pain, paresthesia, and function. Smoking, increased age, smaller graft size, and partial closure were implicated in decreased functional scores. Our approach and technique show good results with respect to donor site morbidity and patient experience regarding this grafting procedure. Involvement of an OMS in a team approach may be helpful to the reconstructive urologist treating this difficult surgical problem.
