Telepathology: Past, Present and Future

At present the most common method of sharing pathology images is by sending glass slides. This does not produce live consultation between the pathologists and takes a long time. Histopathology is a discipline that recognizes the importance of consultation with colleagues, expert second opinions, Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings and collective post-graduate education. Telepathology is coming up as an alternative, possibly more efficient, system but its feasibility has not been fully explored as yet. It will take some time till it gets completely integrated into the routine practice of Pathology.
