Prise en charge des urgences et poussées hypertensives aux urgences

Hypertension is the most prevalent cardiovascular risk. Management of hypertension is not optimal. One to 2% of hypertensive patients present with severely elevated blood pressure. The dilemma is the distinction between hypertensive emergency and urgency. In emergency, patients with end-organ damage require admission for evaluation and blood pressure management with intravenous therapy. In urgency, patients without end-organ damage are sent to home with oral therapy and recommendations. Role of physicians in management of severely elevated blood pressure in emergency department seem to be important in particularly for asymptomatic severely elevated blood pressure.
