Insulinothérapie fonctionnelle : un modèle d'approche éducative pour les patients ayant un diabète de type 1

The advent of rapid insulin analogs, then of long-acting insulin analogs, has permitted, for some years, to intensify treatment with insulin as “basal-bolus” schemes using multiple daily injections or insulin pumps. Thanks to these schemes, for the first time it was possible to combine improvement in glycemic control and decrease in the hypoglycaemic risk. Also, these intensive schemes have rejuvenated a type 1 diabetes' treatment approach initially described several years ago: the flexible insulin therapy. In this paper, we describe and discuss the flexible insulin therapy modalities and its specific patient's therapeutic education.
