Autosurveillance glycémique chez la personne âgée diabétique

As in younger diabetic patients, self monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) is a major tool for treatment of diabetes in aged patients, in order to adapt treatment and to confirm hyperglycemia and especially hypoglycemia. The practical management of SMBG is easy. It is now available for numerous aged patients after a therapeutic education which should be individually adapted to the patient's physical and cognitive condition. However, if a patient cannot assume himself SMBG, it is necessary to train nurse and/or family to blood glucose monitoring. Geriatric evaluation helps to adapt individually the frequency of SMBG and the glycemic goal to each diabetic aged patient.
