Identification of individuals at risk within the context of hereditary colorectal cancer relies on a combination of individual circumstances and tumor features, family history, and genetic testing. Monitoring of such individuals is commonly based on colonoscopic screening and surveillance. This article reviews the guidelines and analyzes the cost-effectiveness and possible obstacles for the 2 most common cancer syndromes, hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer and familial adenomatous polyposis.
