Allergie alimentaire : quel certificat rédiger ?

RésuméLa rédaction de certificats médicaux fait partie intégrante de l’exercice médical. Dans un grand nombre de cas, ils ne sont ni nécessaires, ni justifiés. Nous rapportons l’observation d’un patient de 14 ans, diagnostiqué allergique au poisson. Avant son départ pour un séjour à l’étranger, l’école demande aux parents de se procurer un certificat médical attestant que l’adolescent est capable de reconnaître la présence de poisson dans la nourriture et de refuser le plat proposé. Le médecin peut-il refuser de rédiger un certificat ? Peut-il établir un certificat à la demande d’un tiers ? Le certificat doit-il revêtir une forme particulière ? Engage-t-il sa responsabilité lors de la délivrance d’un tel document ?

Writing medical certificates is an integral part of medical practice. In many cases, this practice is neither necessary nor justified. Here we report the case of a 14-year-old patient who was allergic to fish. Before traveling abroad, the school asked his parents to get a medical certificate stating that this patient could recognize fish in food preparations and that he had the capacity to refuse such a dish when offered. Does the doctor have the right to refuse writing this document? Can he arrange to obtain the certificate from someone else? Should the certificate have any specific form? Does delivering such a certificate make the doctor responsible?
