Diagnostic des paresthésies buccales

RésuméLes paresthésies, qu’il convient de distinguer des douleurs véritables, sont un fréquent motif de présentation dans une consultation spécialisée des affections de la muqueuse buccale. Elles sont souvent associées à des troubles salivaires et gustatifs, formant un syndrome appelé actuellement stomatodynie (SD) ou burning mouth syndrome (BMS). Les auteurs insistent sur la fréquence des troubles anxieux et dépressifs qui pourraient être intégrés comme quatrième élément et cause la plus probable du syndrome, pour lequel ils proposent le terme de paresthésies buccales psychogènes (PBP). Les paresthésies buccales secondaires dues à d’autres facteurs seraient à discuter au diagnostic différentiel des PBP.

Paresthesias, which should be distinguished from real pain, are a common reason for presentation for consultation with a specialist in diseases of the oral mucosa. They are often associated with impaired salivary function and taste, forming a syndrome currently known as stomatodynia or burning mouthsyndrome (BMS). The authors emphasize the frequency of anxiety and depressive disorders that might be included as a fourth element and the most likely cause of the syndrome, for which they propose the term psychogenic oral paresthesia (POP). The secondary oral paresthesias due to other factors should be discussed in the differential diagnosis of POP.
