Sinfisitis púbica. Revisión bibliográfica

Confusion about the cause of this illness is reflected in the wide variety of treatments that have been used over the years, such as radiation, prolonged bed rest, injection of local anesthetics, anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics, heparin, surgical debridement, wedge resection of the symphysis pubis, and autologous iliac bone grafts. Bone infection or inflammation of the pubic area is rare. These two entities are commonly confused in the literature and many patients with a diagnosis of osteitis pubis actually have unrecognized osteomyelitis. Consequently, an aggressive diagnostic approach is advised, especially in postsurgical cases, including computed-tomography-guided biopsy and needle aspiration of the symphysis.
