Rapid synthesis of silver nanoparticles from Polylthia longifolia leaves

ObjectiveMetallic nanoparticles are traditionally synthesized by wet chemical techniques, where the chemicals used are quite often toxic and flammable. In this research article we present a simple and eco-friendly biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles using P. longifolia leaf extract as reducing agent.MethodsCharacterization using UV-Vis spectrophotometry, Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) was performed.ResultsTEM showed the formation of silver nanoparticles with an average size of 57 nm.ConclusionsP. longifolia demonstrated strong potential for synthesis of silver nanoparticles by rapid reduction of silver ions (Ag+ to Ag0). Biological methods are a good competent for the chemical procedures, which are enviro- friendly and convenient.
