ObjectiveTo investigate correlation between C-reactive protein(CRP) and gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM).MethodsTwenty-five GDM women were served as study group, and thirty normal pregnant women were selected as control group. The serum FPG, 2hPG, HbA1c and CRP levels and the leukocyte count were detected in the two groups, in order to observe the relationship between gestational diabetes mellitus and inflammatory markers.ResultsThe age and gestational week did not show difference in the two groups(P > 0.05). But there was a significant difference in body mass index(BMI) between the GDM group and the control group(P < 0.05). The serum FPG, 2hPG, HbA1c and CRP levels and the leukocyte count in the GDM group were higher than those in the control group, and the difference was significant(P < 0.05). There was positive correlation between serum C-reactive protein value and FPG, 2hPG, HbA1c serum levels or the leukocyte count in GDM group. But in the control group there was no correlation between them.ConclusionThe results suggest that there is correlation between C-reactive protein and gestational diabetes mellitus, and inflammation may play an important role in the development of gestational diabetes mellitus.
