Funciones de los linfocitos B

ResumenLos linfocitos B son responsables de la inmunidad humoral. Su función principal es la defensa del huésped contra gérmenes por medio de la secreción de anticuerpos que reconocen las moléculas antigénicas de los patógenos. También tienen otras funciones como la presentación de antígenos a los linfocitos T, la regulación negativa de las respuestas inflamatorias y la regulación de las respuestas frente a autoantígenos. Las células B producen anticuerpos de distintos isotipos que se distribuyen y localizan en distintos compartimentos de nuestro organismo y desencadenan distintas funciones efectoras como la activación del complemento, y diversas respuestas celulares mediadas por receptores para anticuerpos, como la fagocitosis de microorganismos e inmunocomplejos y la exocitosis de mediadores y citotoxinas.

B lymphocytes are responsible for humoral immunity. Their primary function is the defence of the host against germs by means of the secretion of antibodies that recognise the antigenic molecules of the pathogens. B lymphocytes have additional functions such as the presentation of antigens to T lymphocytes, the negative regulation of inflammatory responses and the regulation of responses to autoantigens. B cells produce antibodies to various isotypes that are distributed and located in various parts of our body and trigger various effector functions, such as the activation of the complement, and various cell responses mediated by antibody receptors, such as the phagocytosis of microorganisms and immune complexes and the exocytosis of mediators and cytotoxins.
