Pituitary function tests are useful in the diagnosis of hypothalamic-pituitary pathology. The clinical history, physical examination and basal hormonal determinations will guide the application of these tests. When hormonal hypofunction is suspected we will use stimulation tests are used, but in cases of hormone hypersecretion suppression tests will be used. They are not necessary in the evaluation of all hypothalamus-pituitary axes.
