In this update on mental illness in childhood we review three diagnostic categories for different reasons: Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) as it is a highly prevalent condition in childhood; Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) given their diagnostic complexity, the prognostic relevance of early detection and conceptual changes introduced by DSM-5; Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD) to gain a better understanding of it since it is a new diagnostic category included in DSM-5 since 2013.
