ResumenLa densitometría ósea es la técnica diagnóstica de elección en el estudio de la osteoporosis que en el momento actual aporta ventajas sobre las otras pruebas existentes.Se trata de una técnica con buenos resultados de precisión y fiabilidad, pero cuyo mayor rendimiento práctico se consigue en las personas con mayor riesgo de fracturas, lo que determina sus indicaciones y la no realización de cribado en la población general.La interpretación de sus resultados está marcada por los criterios diagnósticos de la OMS, que a través de la T-Score permiten estratificar el riesgo de fractura, y por las limitaciones del propio método, entre los que destaca la baja capacidad predictiva de fractura a nivel individual.
