El síndrome de vena cava superior es un conjunto de síntomas causado por el deterioro del flujo sanguíneo a la aurícula derecha. Se describe el caso de una mujer que presentó edema facial y cervical e ingurgitación yugular. En las horas previas a ser asistida en el Servicio de Urgencias el cuadro se acompañó de circulación colateral en región torácica anterosuperior y cianosis facial. Las pruebas complementarias objetivaron ensanchamiento mediastínico superior. Posteriormente la paciente ingresó para su estudio y diagnóstico de linfoma maligno no Hodgkin.

The superior vena cava syndrome is a group of symptoms caused by damage to the blood stream to the right auricle. The case of a woman who had facial and neck inflammation and jugular ingurgitation is described. In the hours prior to being seen in the Emergency Service, she had collateral circulation in the front upper thoracic region and facial cyanosis. The complementary tests showed upper mediastinal mass. Later the patient required hospital admission to be studied, and was diagnosed of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
