The painful elbow

The painful elbow is a relatively uncommon reason for orthopaedic referral. There may be a delay in diagnosis of the condition, resulting in the patient suffering prolonged and unnecessary symptoms. Clinical examination of the elbow begins laterally and moves in a circular fashion, examining the posterior aspect, medial aspect and finally anterior aspect of the elbow joint. A systematic examination technique often provides the correct diagnosis.
