Brain tumours

Brain tumours are highly variable; some can be cured by surgery, some are rapidly fatal despite treatment, and some do not require treatment. Management requires accurate diagnosis and careful estimation of the risks of surgery. Discussion between neurosurgeons and neuro-oncologists is often needed. Neurosurgical treatment requires accurate localization of the tumour. Surgery must be conducted so as to minimize blood loss and the risk of damage to adjacent brain tissue. Good care is critical for the first few hours after surgery when the risk of life-threatening haemorrhage is highest.
