The newborn with “few red blood cells” and the newborn with “too many red blood cells”

Anemia and polycythemia are common hematologic problems in neonates. Although significant progress has been made in this field, some of the common interventions for these conditions are not yet supported by scientific evidence. With this manuscript we aim to define a structured approach for the diagnosis of these conditions and review their usual treatment.
