Extremely short term frequency estimation (ESTFE) algorithm for underfrequency protection

This paper presents a new approach to underfrequency protection in power systems. For the fist time, a dynamic estimator is proposed to predict frequency one second ahead in to the future. The proposed estimator is very effective and reliable to detect the frequency. Numerical results showing the performance of the algorithm under different operational condition are discussed.
