• Load frequency control for restructured multi source multi area system is developed.
• Control strategy for load frequency controller is based on GENCOs and TRANSCOs reserve.
• The control strategy is tested for all combinations of GENCO participation during contact violations.
This paper modifies the traditional Automatic Generation Control scheme based on tie line bias control. The proposed scheme takes the GENCO reserve and TRANSCO corridor into account to permit the unscheduled power transactions. The suggested control scheme is demonstrated on a deregulated multi source multi area system. Control strategies for the deregulated system are developed to manage the contract violation for all possible combinations of GENCO reserve and TRANSCO corridor. The results obtained from the proposed scheme are found to be effective in regulating frequency and power exchange between the areas during contract violation.
