• Supported catalysts with dispersed and interfaced Ag and CeO2/MnOx were obtained.
• The synergetic action between silica-supported Ag and CeO2/MnOx oxide was observed.
• Used catalyst design provides the development of reasonable and rather active catalysts.
Silica-supported silver catalysts modified by cerium/manganese oxides were studied as catalysts for total oxidation of formaldehyde. The catalysts were characterized by N2 adsorption, XRD, and H2-TPR methods. Catalytic activity of the samples was tested in a flow fixed-bed reactor at atmospheric pressure and 100–200 °C using a feed gas containing 10,000–22,000 ppm of formaldehyde with a flow rate corresponding to a WHSV of ∼69,000 mL/(gcat h). It was shown that combination of silica support and a small amount of cerium/manganese oxides allows developing silver catalysts with defined micro- and macrostructure as well as high activity in the total oxidation of formaldehyde.
