Actualités dans la prise en charge des patients atteints d'hypertension pulmonaire en 2012

Remarkable progress have been made in the pathophysiologic understanding and therapy of pulmonary hypertension (PH) over the past decades. Several studies focused on the role of genetic factors predisposing to PH and therapeutic biomarkers have shown encouraging results. However, PH remains incurable disease with poor prognosis. Existence of other co-morbidities worsens the dramatic evolution of PH. Thus, despite optimal treatment, the median survival of patients with PH is still very modest. New knowledge about the role of right ventricle (RV) in the adaptive response to persistent afterload in PH gives an essential therapeutic approach to the disease.
