The neuroprotective effects of NMDAR antagonist, ifenprodil and ASIC1a inhibitor, flurbiprofen on post-ischemic cerebral injury

► Combination therapy is advocated for successful treatment of cerebral stroke. ► Ifenprodil, a NR2b antagonist, neuroprotective profile was analyzed in rat stroke model. ► Further, its combination with flurbiprofen, an ASIC1a inhibitor was also analyzed. ► The combination at low doses was as effective as ifenprodil alone at high doses. ► Thus combination therapy can improve the risk/benefit ratio for neuroprotectants.
