Low and high affinity dopamine transporter inhibitors block dopamine uptake within 5 sec of intravenous injection

▶The onset of dopamine uptake inhibition following dopamine transporter inhibitors was examined. ▶Low affinity dopamine transporter inhibitors included cocaine, methylphenidate, and nomifensine. ▶High affinity dopamine transporter inhibitors included GBR-12909, PTT, and WF23. ▶Intravenous delivery of all drugs inhibited dopamine uptake within 5 s. ▶The time course of peak effects varied between low and high affinity drugs.
