The mitochondrial genome of Moniliophthora roreri, the frosty pod rot pathogen of cacao

► We report the 94 kbp mtDNA genome of the cacao pathogen Moniliophthora roreri. ► We compare M. roreri mt genome to its congener Moniliophthora perniciosa. ► Moniliophthora roreri harbours three free linear mt plasmids that encode DNA and RNA polymerases. ► One of the M. roreri free plasmids is 90 % similar to M. perniciosa integrated plasmid. ► Both Moniliophthoras have an atypical high number of hypothetical ORFs.
