A socio-ecological model of the Opuntia scrublands in the Peruvian Andes

► We develop a simulation model of the Opuntia scrublands in Ayacucho, Peru. ► The model contains five ecological-economic subsystems. ► We examined the effects of social practices/social capital on net present values. ► We conclude that increasing livestocks will be unsustainable.
