► SS 19 and NS 007 were better varieties of sweet potato for ethanol production. ► Sweet potato for ethanol production could be harvested after 130 d of growth instead of 160 d. ► High content of fermentable sugar and low content of fiber in sweet potato makes it an ideal crop.
