Analyzing changes in sediment meiofauna communities using the image analysis software ZooImage

► A novel method of automatic classification of meiofauna communities is proposed. ► The image analysis software ZooImage was used to classify higher taxa. ► Accuracy of classification using an internal method was determined to ~ 82%. ► Automatically classified samples were compared to manual classification of the same. ► Significant differences in communities between sampled depths could be detected.
