Mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a group of mobile nodes that are formed dynamically by an autonomous system and communicates with each other without any supporting infrastructure. These networks are vulnerable to a number of security threats due to their unique features such as open nature, lack of infrastructure, node mobility and limited physical security of the nodes. Hence designing a secure routing protocol has become a popular research topic. Bio/Nature-inspired routing algorithms (Swarm Intelligence) such as BeeAdHoc have been offered for developing routing algorithms for MANETs. In this paper, the security vulnerabilities of BeeAdHoc are investigated and then a security framework, FBeeAdHoc, which utilizes fuzzy set theory and digital signature is proposed. A toolbox TRUTIME is used with MATLAB for simulation. The results of our experiments show that our proposed framework is able to counter the different types of threats and achieves better performance as compared to ad hoc on-demand distance vector (AODV).
