Early responses of Bassia diffusa (Thunb.) Kuntze to submergence for different salinity treatments

► Tolerance to short term submergence and salinity was studied. ► Chlorophyll a + b decrease and carotenoid increase marked immediate response. ► Start of positive acclimation marked by increase in oxalic acid concentration. ► Limit of tolerance marked by increase in EL and decrease in total electrolytes. ► Can survive submergence < 7 days, hence need water levels to be kept low
