Metalasia namaquana (Asteraceae-Gnaphalieae), a new species from the Kamiesberg (South Africa)

► Metalasia namaquana is known from a single, extensive population in the southern Kamiesberg some 15 km NE of Garies. ► Metalasia namaquana rapidly resprouts after fire, and may flower in the second year after a fire (N. Helme - pers. obs.). ► Plants are found in shallow sandy soils derived from the underlying granites (actually gneiss). ► Metalasia namaquana is a wide low shrub with spreading leaves and white, small synflorescences with 3-flowered capitula.
