Acacia saligna seed banks: Sampling methods and dynamics, Western Cape, South Africa

► The seed bank of Acacia saligna at two densely invaded Western Cape sites was investigated. ► A. saligna seed banks are still large despite the 20-year presence of Uromycladium tepperianum. ► The largest portion of seed is situated in the upper 0-10 cm of the soil and numbers decline with depth. ► A. saligna seed banks were assessed to have a clumped horizontal distribution. ► Random sampling is recommended to assess the seed bank size.
