Antimicrobial and cyclooxygenase enzyme inhibitory activities of Sclerocarya birrea and Harpephyllum caffrum (Anacardiaceae) plant extracts

► EtOH extracts exhibited high antibacterial activity (MIC < 1.0 mg/ml). ► S. birrea twig extract high activity (MIC = 0.195 mg/ml) against Bacillus subtilis. ► Extracts exhibited high COX-1 inhibition at 250 µg/ml. ► PE and DCM extracts exhibited high COX-2 inhibition. ► Plant part substitution is a possible practical conservation strategy.
