S-RNase based S-genotyping of Croatian sweet cherry (Prunus avium L.) genotypes

► A wide number of standard and local sweet cherry genotypes from Croatia evaluated by S allele composition first time. ► PCR method effectively classified standard and local genotypes. ► A total of 10 cross-incompatibility groups (CIG) determined among the 37 Croatian sweet cherry genotypes. ► Croatian cultivars are found different than European sweet cherry cultivars according to S allele composition. ► Results suggested some historical link between Turkish and Croatian sweet cherry genotypes.
