Diversity, relationships, and genetic fingerprinting of the Listada de Gandía eggplant landrace using genomic SSRs and EST-SSRs

► Genetic characterization of Listada de Gandía eggplant landrace may be useful for its enhancement and protection. ► Genomic SSRs have had a higher polymorphism than EST-SSRs. ► Listada de Gandía is genetically diverse and differentiated from other materials. ► Two SSR alleles from different loci have been found to be specific and universal to all Listada de Gandía accessions. ► The results support the recognition of Listada de Gandía with a Protected Designation of Origin status.
